Cooperative Charting:

Cooperative Charting Program of the United States Power Squadrons® is conducted in close cooperation with United States Army Corps of Engineers, the United States Coast Guard and NOAA's National Geodetic Survey Division (NGSD). The Program continues to be a major public service. The Cooperative Charting Committee maintains a Geodetic Program where members help to verify the accuracy of reference points established on the surface of the earth by local, state, and national agencies. Maintenance and preservation of these marks is of utmost importance to users of the net and to NGSD. Recognizing that many valuable geodetic marks are destroyed by construction, new roads, erosion, or for other causes, our job is to locate each of these marks and report their condition together with any change in the directions needed to locate them. See USPS for more information.

Marine Observing Network (MAROB):

Having accurate weather information is important for the safety of your vessel and the comfort of the crew. Through the MAROB program, United States Power Squadrons® has partnered with the National Weather Service to improve NWS data and thereby improve their computer models and forecasts. Currently there are six test districts (3, 8, 9, 16, 22 & 26) involved in the initial program. Let’s all support this worthwhile initiative. See MAROB for more information.

Vessel Safety Check:

A major component of a safe, responsible & fun filled outing is a boat which has all the necessary safety equipment operating properly. A free voluntary vessel safety check is the answer and our certified Vessel Examiners will be happy to perform the inspection. See vesselsafeycheck for more information.

America's Waterway Watch Program:

America's Waterway Watch, is a combined effort of the Coast Guard and its Reserve and Auxiliary components. America’s coasts, rivers, bridges, tunnels, ports, ships, military bases and waterside industries may be the next terrorist targets. You can help by participating in America’s Waterway Watch. To report suspicious activity call the National Response Center: 800-424-8802 or 877-24WATCH. See CGAUX for more information.

National Safe Boating Week:

The Safe Boating Campaign, by the National Safe Boating Council, is a worldwide effort focused on responsible boating, encouraging boaters to always wear a life jacket while on the water. Ready, Set, Wear It is now implemented by campaign partners on various dates throughout the summer boating season. These family-friendly events teach boaters about the importance of always wearing a life jacket, along with helpful care and maintenance information. With a bit of fun along the way! See safeboatingcampaign.com for more information. The Cape Fear Sail & Power Squadron provides for proclamations for many cities and townships in the Cape Fear area to recognize the National Safe Boating Week, and call the observance to the attention of all their citizens to the practice of safe and responsible boating. Further, the local cities and townships support the efforts and activities of the Cape Fear Sail & Power Squadron to provide boat education and civic service to their community.

Squadron Emergency Response Assistance Team (SERAT)
